Urban Development and Architecture

Between 1900 and the First World War the Old Town of Munich underwent a transformation with the construction of urban office buildings and department stores.

45% of these were destroyed in June 1944. The reconstruction era and especially the period in the early 1990s ushered in a new architectural style.

BMW Museum and BMW World

Even though already designed and built in the early 70-ies of the last century by architect Karl Schwanzer, the “4-cylinder” as the BMW headquarter is called and the BMW Museum still remain unique. Together with the fascinating BMW World which was opened in 2007 they form a unique architectural ensemble which blends harmoniously with the bold architecture of the Olympic Park Area.We show you both the BMW World and the newly refurbished and massively expanded BMW Museum.

Schleißheim Hangar

This historical hangar was built between 1912 and 1919 for the Bavarian Air Force troops. The edifices rank among the oldest preserved airport buildings in Germany. Today they house the aviation section of the Deutsches Museum.
